Ash Wednesday on March 1st marks
the beginning of the Season of Lent.
It is a season of penance, reflection, and fasting which prepares us for Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday, through which we attain redemption.

Fridays are days of abstinence from meat, but Catholics may substitute special acts of charity or piety on this day. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and abstinence from meat.
